Bentoel Group - Environment, Health and Safety

Environment, Health and Safety

Providing a safe place to work and protecting our employees’ wellbeing are also fundamental to us.

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) management is a fundamental aspect of Bentoel Group’s operational and commercial activities.

On the safety aspect, we have achieved zero lost time injury rate for four years since 2021. The significant achievement is gained, among other things, through the management of the machinery safety to avoid entrapment accident. This innovation has been approved as the current global Current Best Approach (CBA), replacing the current machinery safety guideline. Other innovation is Compliance Monitoring for Contractor Safety Management.

On the other side, the execution of safety measures includes the hazardous work starting training, system and onsite verification as the main aspect on accident and incident prevention. On training, all of Sustainability training materials are put in the digital platform called DigiED where all employees have to pass the training before executing the job. Training refresher for contractors is as important as that for employees. Higher passing grade of 90% is applied for contractors before carrying out the work.

Since 2013, we have managed to maintain the Blue rating every year in the Performance Ranking Programme (PROPER) audit by the Ministry of Environment for seven consecutive years. In 2023, Bentoel Group regained the Blue rating for its 100% compliance. Beyond compliance, Bentoel Group has always put sustainability front and centre. On environment, we are focusing on climate change, natural resources and waste management.

Environmental Management

Environmental conservation is one of the main foundations of Bentoel Group’s responsible management. This principle is embodied in the environmentally friendly practices implemented across the business. The Company continuously strives to mitigate its environmental impact by reducing the use of energy, water, and carbon dioxide emissions in daily business operations.

On climate change, we have reached -80.59% reduction in carbon emission compared to the baseline in 2020 and 52.91% of renewable energy use in 2024. While on waste, we continue to recycle 99.95% of our waste and achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’ status.

On water conservation, we managed to regain the Alliance for Water Stewardship certification for three years in a row. We also managed to reduce our water withdrawal by more than 76.69% as well as recycled and reused water by 40.02% in 2024.

With all the progresses we have made in Sustainability, we received an external recognition, i.e. IDX Channel Award for three consecutive years for Sustainability Category with following innovations: emission reduction, water conservation and waste management.
